BOULDERS BEACH

Boulders Beach is the kind of place you only believe exists once you’ve seen it. It’s got the white sand and turquoise water of a tropical island, but turn the water temperature down a few degrees, trade the palm trees for rugged granite boulders and the seagulls for penguins. Thousands of them.
What makes it magic isn’t just the wildlife, it’s the quiet. The boulders form natural coves that block the wind and the waves, creating calm pockets where toddlers can splash in tide pools and adults can float in glassy water. It’s a photographer’s dream, really.
Or anyone just looking to have the most relaxing day on the beach, you see, the penguins are never in a rush. They waddle, sunbathe, preen, and sometimes just stand there blinking in the sun like they’ve got nowhere better to be. And somehow, that energy spills into the whole beach. You slow down. You watch. You breathe.
It’s just beautiful. And thanks to years of careful protection, it’s still exactly how nature meant it to be.

CULTURE & HISTORY

Set beside the naval charm of Simon’s Town, Boulders is backed by colonial cottages, lovely hotels and quaint guesthouses, while the main road is filled with quirky shops.

STORIES & SECRETS

In 1982, there were only two breeding pairs of African penguins left in the area. Today, thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, the colony has grown to over 3,000 strong. It is carefully managed by rangers and researchers. Visitors help keep the beach clean, quiet, and penguin-friendly.

WONDERS & WILDLIFE

Beyond penguins, this Marine Big Five zone offers glimpses of humpback whales, playful dolphins, shy sharks, and rockpools teeming with starfish and anemones.
